Question
Insha Allah you are well. I read the undermentioned translation of a hadith:
Ibn Abbas reported: I was riding with the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and he said, “Know that there is much good in patience with what you dislike, that support will come with patience, relief will come with affliction, and hardship will come with ease.” (Musnad Ahmad)
and I am not sure of the meaning of the underlined portion: and hardship will come with ease”
Could you please explain the meaning of this? Also, could you please send me the Arabic text?
Jazakumullah,
Answer
This is the last part of a famous lengthy hadith from Musnad Ahmad, vol.1 pg.307 & other books.
The correct translation would be: difficulty brings ease i.e, after the difficulty follows ease.
The ideal translation for the previous sentences will be: “support will come after patience, relief will follow affliction…”
The Arabic for this portion is as follows:
واعلم أن في الصبر على ما تكره خيرا كثيرا، وأن النصر مع الصبر وأن الفرج مع الكرب ، وأن مع العسر يسرا
And Allah Ta’ala Knows best,
