Clarification on the Hadith ‘laughter causes the heart to die’

Is this a Hadith of Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam)?

“Laughter kills the heart”

Didn’t Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) himself laugh on certain occasions?

Answer

This is a Hadith of Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) recorded by Imam Tirmidhi. See the full Hadith and authenticity here.

The words of the part in question are as follows:

“…Abstain from excessive laughter as excessive laughter causes the heart to die.”

The Hadith clearly explains that excessive laughter causes the heart to die. Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) certainly did laugh occasionally.

However, majority of the time he would smile.

(Shamail Tirmidhi)

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
