What is meant by the heart dying due excessive laughter?

Question

What is the meaning of the heart dying due to excessive laughter?

Answer

The Hadith you are referring to is recorded in Sunan Tirmidhi and Sunan Ibn Majah. See here and here.

When the heart dies [spiritually] it becomes covered in darkness and the person becomes like a deceased person who can’t be of any benefit to himself nor can he defend himself.

‘Allamah Sindhi (rahimahullah) explains, ‘The heart become hard and will not take heed from advices and admonishments.’

(Refer: Tuhfatul Ahwadhi, Hadith: 2305 and Hashiyatus Sindhi ‘Ala Sunan Ibn Majah, vol. 2 pg. 548)

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
