من لم يتورع فى تعلمه ابتلاه الله تعالى بأحد ثلاثة أشياء: إما أن يميته فى شبابه، أو يوقعه فى الرساتيق، أو يبتليه بخدمة السلطان
What is the authenticity of this Hadith?
Answer
I have not come across this narration in any Hadith collection, nor have I come across the chain of narrators. I am therefore unable to verify the authenticity.
I could locate the following:
Imam ‘Abdullah ibn Al Mubarak (rahimahullah) said: “Whoever is miserly/conceals his knowledge will suffer in one of three ways; He will either die [early], or he will forget or he will follow the rulers (i.e. sell his knowledge for their wealth.)
(Tadribur Rawi, vol. 4 pg. 553)
Translation of the narration in question
Whoever does not fear Allah/be cautious when studying knowledge, Allah Ta’ala will test him with with one of three things; He will either dies young, or Allah Ta’ala will place him in the farming industry or Allah will test him by making him serve the ruler.
And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
