Does it appear in a Hadith to recite the following words when a person is overcome with anxiety/distress/grief?
اللَّهُ اللَّهُ رَبِّي، لَا أُشْرِكُ بِهِ شَيْئًا
Allahu Allahu Rabbi la ushriku bihi shayan
Answer
Yes. Sayyidah Asma bint ‘Umays (radiyallahu ‘anha) says, Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) taught me these words to recite when overcome with distress, ‘Allahu Allahu Rabbi la ushriku bihi shayan‘ [Allah is my Rabb I do not ascribe any partners to him]
(Sunan Abi Dawud, Hadith: 1520, Sunan Ibn Majah, Hadith: 3882 with a sound chain. Refer: Footnotes of Shaykh Muhammad ‘Awwamah on Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah, Hadith: 29766)
Imam Ibn Hibban (rahimahullah) has recorded the following version in his Sahih:
Sayyidah ‘Aaishah (radiyallahu ‘anha) says, “Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) gathered his household and said, ‘When anyone of you is overcome with sorrow or distress, then he should recite Allahu Allahu Rabbi la ushriku bihi shayan‘”
(Sahih Ibn Hibban; Al Ihsan, Hadith: 864)
