Another version of the du’a to recite when overcome with grief and anxiety

Question

Can you confirm the source of this Hadith?

من أصابه هم أو غم أو سقم أو شدة فقال: الله ربي لا شريك له كشف ذلك عنه

Answer

Imam Tabarani (rahimahullah) has recorded this narration on the authority of Sayyidah Asma bintu ‘Umays (radiyallahu ‘anha).

Sayyidah Asma bintu ‘Umays (radiyallahu ‘anha) reported, I heard Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “Whoever is afflicted by anxiety, grief illness or hardship and he recites the following, it will be removed:

الله ربي لا شريك له

Allahu Rabbi La Sharika Lahu

Allah is my Rabb, He has no partner

(Al Mu’jamul Kabir, Hadith: 396, vol. 24)

Imam Abu Dawud (rahimahullah) and other Muhaddithun has recorded a slightly different version of the du’a. See here.

One may recite either version.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
