The importance of being kind and seeing to the needs of one’s neighbour

What is the authenticity of the following Hadith?

“Many a person’s neighbour will be clinging to him on the Day of Qiyamah saying, ‘O my Rabb! This person shut his doors upon me and deprived me of kindness”

Answer

Imam Bukhari (rahimahullah) has recorded this narration in Al Adabul Mufrad with a sound chain. The full narration is as follows:

Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Umar (radiyallahu ‘anhuma) says, ‘A time had come upon us wherein non had more right to a person’s Dirhams and Dinars than his Muslim brother. However, now Dinars and Dirhams have become more beloved to people than their own Muslim brethren. I heard Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) say, ” Many a person’s neighbour will be clinging to him on the Day of Qiyamah saying, ‘O my Rabb! This person shut his doors upon me and deprived me of kindness”

(Al Adabul Mufrad, Hadith: 111)

Imam Abu Bakr Ibn Abid Dunya (rahimahullah) has also recorded this narration with his own chain of narrators.

(Makarimul Akhlaq, Hadith: 346. Also see: Targhib, vol. 3 pg. 359)

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
