Du’as for protection against evil eye (nazar)

Are there any du’as in the Hadith to be recited for the protection from nazar (evil eye) for children?

Answer

1) Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Abbas (radiyallahu ‘anhuma) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) use to seek Allah Ta’ala’s protection for Sayyiduna Hasan and Sayyiduna Husayn (radiyallahu ‘anhuma) with the following words:

اعيذكما بكلمات الله التامة من كل شيطان و هامة و من كل عين لامة

U’izukuma bi kalimatillahit taammah min kulli shaytaniw wa haammah wa min kulli ‘aynil laammah

Translation: I seek refuge with the perfect words of Allah from every devil and poisonous creature and from every evil eye.

Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) told Sayyiduna Hasan and Sayyiduna Husayn (radiyallahu ‘anhuma) that your fore father (Nabi Ibrahim ‘alayhis salam) use to also seek Allah’s protection with these words for Sayyiduna Isma’il and Sayyiduna Ishaq (‘alayhimas salam)

(Sahih Bukhari, Hadith: 3371)

Other du’as for the onlooker to read:

2) Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) is reported to have said: “When one of you sees his brother or his brother’s wealth and is amazed by it, then he should say ‘Barakallah’/make du’a for barakah, for verily the evil eye is true.

(Ibnus Sunni, Hadith: 206 and Mustadrak Hakim vol. 4 pg. 215 with difference in the wording)

Imam Hakim (rahimahullah) has classified his version authentic and Hafiz Dhahabi (rahimahullah) concurs.

3) Hizam ibn Hakim ibn Hizam (rahimahullah) reports: When Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) feared that his glance may affect someone, he would read

“Allahumma barik fihi wa la tadurrahu”

Translation: O Allah! Bless him and don’t harm him

(Ibnus Sunni, Hadith: 209)

4) Al-Mufassir, Hafiz ibn Kathir (rahimahullah) writes: Some of the salaf (pious predecessors) said: When one is amazed at his condition, wealth or children he should recite:

Masha Allah la Quwwata illa billah

Ibn Kathir adds: ‘This is derived from this verse.’ (i.e, in Surah Kahf, verse: 39). This du’a has also been reported in a Hadith. See here.
