Does the deceased feel anything?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by HadithAnswers.com

Is it true that we should be very careful with a dead body because it can feel pain?

Answer

Sayyidatuna ‘Aishah (radiyallahu’anha) reported that Rasulullah (sallallahu’alayhi wasallam) said:

‘Breaking the bone of a deceased person is same as breaking that of the living.’

(Sunan Abi Dawud, Hadith: 3199, Sunan Ibn Majh, Hadith: 1616, Musnad Ahmad, vol.6 pg.58 & Sharh Mushkilul Athar, Hadith: 1273-1276)

The words ‘is same as…‘ means:

a) Same in sin

b) Same in the pain that is felt by both.

(Badhlul Majhud, Hadith: 3207 & Mirqat, Hadith: 1714)

This clearly answers your question

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best,
