The simplicity of the Hajj of Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam)

What is the level of authenticity of this Hadith?

“Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) performed Hajj on an old saddle, wearing a cloak that was worth four Dirhams or less. Then He said: ‘O Allah, (this is) a Hajj in which there is no showing off nor reputation sought”

Answer

Imam Ibn Majah (rahimahullah) has recorded this narration on the authority of Sayyiduna Anas ibn Malik (radiyallahu ‘anhu). ‘Allamah Busiri (rahimahullah) has declared the chain weak.

(Sunan Ibn Majah, Hadith: 2890, Zawaid Ibn Majah, pg. 388, Hadith: 967)

Imam Bukhari (rahimahullah) has recorded the following words:

“The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) had performed Hajj sitting on a pack-saddle, which was also carrying his baggage/luggage.”

(Sahih Bukhari, Hadith: 1517)

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
