Overthinking and depression
I have habit of depression and overthinking any small thing. If I do something wrong I overthink and go to depression state that why I didn’t plan much better earlier.
Below are few examples which happened recently.
1. During Umrah , I used trimmer to trim my hair and after that I thought that what I did is correct or should I have used blade. I went to multiple people and asked and they said it is okay..I was depressed for one week.
2. Prayed Qasar as our stay was 14 days before leaving to Mina. When I left from my home , I made intention that we will be staying 14 days but during Haj people who came with our group offered full and I tried to explain them but they didn’t listen and instead told me to offer full.
I was confused after Arafat day and was strangled and asked many people. I got different responses which made my confusion worse and depression started.
Issue was I didn’t check with any mufti before leaving. I thought of asking but someway or other I couldn’t.
In both cases I was worried if I did anything wrong but later I came to know I did correct.
I wept a lot in Makkah and asked Allah forgiveness thinking I took family and didn’t prepare well enough
After wards I think why I couldn’t stand on my decision and always get confused and depressed if people say something
My family is worried seeing my situation because I go into a shell. Still I get thoughts why I did this. This happens for daily life/work issues also I go into depression and get fever
Any advice how do I stop all these or any dua/wazifa to recite?
Also I think like I should take it as positive as I learnt lot of things after coming from Haj and in sha Allah if I go again I can concentrate fully.
Wa’alaykum as Salam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu,
Continuously recite La Hawla wa la quwwata, and make abundant Istighfaar. Also increase in the recitation of the Quran, for verily, the Quran brings solace to the mind and peace to the heart, and in it, there is a cure for all worries.
In a narration of al-Mu’jam al-Kabir, the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said,
عن ابي هريرة قال قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه و سلم لا حول ولا قوة الا بالله دواء من تسعة وتسعين داء أيسرها الهم (أخرجه الطبراني في المعجم الأوسط – 5/ 187)
“La hawla wa laa quwwata illa billah is a medicine for 99 diseases, the lightest of which is grief/worries/anxiety/grief.” (Al-Mu’jam al-Kabeer, 5 / 187)
In an narration of Sunan Abi Dawood, the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said,
عن ابن عباس أنه حدثه قال قال رسول الله -صلى الله عليه وسلم- « من لزم الاستغفار جعل الله له من كل ضيق مخرجا ومن كل هم فرجا ورزقه من حيث لا يحتسب » (أخرحه أبو داود في سننه – 1/ 560)
“Whoever continuously makes Istighfaar, Allah will make an opening for him from every difficulty, and cure him from worries and grief, and bless him with sustenence from avenues which he can lease perceive.” (Sunan Abi Dawood, 1/560)
You may also want to get yourself medically checked, to ensure there is no psychological disorder.
