Salaah on Carpet with no Visible Impurity

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Fatwa-TT.com
Question:

If I am doubtful (due to lack of concentration/absent mindedness) as to whether I walked in a carpeted room with napaak slippers and there is no visible sign or smell of napaaki on the carpet, do I regard the carpet as paak to walk on with wet feet & to perform Salah on, or does it have to be washed?

NB: This particular type of doubt has occurred at least twice previously.

It is habit to remove the slippers prior to going in to the said room, because I perform Salah in that room, but as I said due to absent mindedness I could have walked in that room with the slippers, and although there is no visible sign or smell of napaaki, if it was present in the form of a few drops of urine, it would be impossible to tell.

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

You state that you were uncertain whether you walked on the carpet with unclean slippers. Furthermore there is no visible sign or smell of impurities on the carpet. There is no need to worry, the carpet will be regarded as clean and it is permissible to perform Salaah on it and walk on it with wet feet.

As a matter of precaution and to put your mind at ease you may mop/wipe the carpet.

And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best
