Breaking of fast before Iftaar time due to the wrong Adhaan

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by ShariahBoard.org

Assalamualaikum,

During one of the days of fasting of Ramadhan, as usual, people were sitting in the inside rooms of the Masjid to break the fast. As the iftar time approached, Adhaan was heard and most of the people including me made the du’aa and ate the date to break the fast. Suddenly somebody said it was not the Adhaan of the Masjid but from a phone (basically the phone Adhaan played 2-3 minutes before the Masjid’s Adhaan). So I stopped eating further and waited for the Masjid’s Adhaan to be called and once it was called I continued the eating.

My question is: Will I have to offer a Qazaa Roza because of this error? (I did not break the fast 3 minutes early on purpose. It was just due to an Adhaan from the phone which sounded very much like the real Adhaan.) Or do I need to do a Kaffaarah?

Jazakallah Khair.

الجواب وباللہ التوفیق

If one breaks fast before the scheduled time then do Qazaa of one day of fasting, the Kaffarah is not Wajib (compulsory).

لو أكل مكرها أو مخطئا عليه القضاء دون الكفارة كذا في فتاوى قاضي خان.{فتاوی عالمگیری:کتاب الصوم، النوع الأول ما يوجب القضاء دون الكفارة}
