SALAAH/FORGETTING THE QURAN

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulUloomTT.net

QUESTION:

As Salaamu Alaikum,

I am praying the qada salahs of my previous years. For the qada salahs I make intention like this “Allah,of all my qada salahs until today I am praying 4 rakat fard salah of 22nd/ 35th/1000th Zuhr” . I say the number of the day (like 1st, 2nd or 1000th esha/zuhr ) because it helps me keep count of how many qada salahs I have made up. Is my salah and intention valid? 2. Few years ago I memorised 4 Sarahs of Holy Quran like Sarah Yasin, Sura Ar Rahman. In these years, I have not practiced those and as a result I have forgotten some parts of it. I have recently come to know that forgetting the Quran afternoon memorizing it is a major sin. I have repented and asked for Allah’s forgiveness. I have decided to memorize those surahs again. My question is, will it be enough to memories those surahs which I once memorised, or do I have to memorise the whole Quran?I never memorised the whole Quran in my life.

Answer:

Wa Alaikum As Salaam,

Bismillahi wa billahi At Tawfeeq

  1. In the interest of keeping things simple, we advise you to make the following intention instead. We will use Zuhr Salah as an example here. Say: ‘Oh Allah I intend to pray the Qadha of the first Zuhr Salah that is wajib upon me.

In this way, In Sha Allah you will not become confused.

  1. No. You do not have to memorize the entire Quran, memorizing the surahs that you forgot will be sufficient

And Allah knows best
