Giving English Translations to Non Muslims

Answered by: Maulana Muhammad Asadullah Anwar Adam

Question:

Would it be better to give a non-muslim an English only translation of the Qur’ān, or a side by side translation, where there is the possibility of them handling it in a state of impurity?

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

It is compulsory to have wudhu touch the Quran even if it may be only one verse.[1]

When introducing a non-Muslim to the Qur’an, it is best to give them an English only translation of the Qur’an as wudhu will not be needed to touch it.  Because non-Muslims generally are not capable of reading and understanding the Arabic language, the translation of the meanings of the Qur’an will be better for them.

Only Allah knows best
