Can One Drink Water Before or After Eating?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulIftaBirmingham

Answered by: Maulana Syed Johir Miah

Question:

Some people say that it is unhealthy to drink water right after eating. Are there any narrations regarding when to drink and when not to?

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

Islamically, it is not disliked to drink water before or after food, since there is nothing established in that from Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم).[1]

Hence, a person can drink water; before, during or after the course of food.

Only Allah knows best.
