Is Face Painting Haram

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulIftaBirmingham

Question

Is face painting haram?

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

You cannot do face painting as the face is the sacred part of the body and it should be respected and not mocked.

Also, face painting resembles the ways which lead to haram so in this scenario later on it can lead to tattooing your face or body which is haram in Islam [i] so according to sharia those ways which lead you to harm shall be avoided too [ii].

Furthermore, the Prophet of Allah (ﷺ) has said: “If somebody fights then he should avoid the face.” [iii] The same ruling will apply for face painting as well.
