Question

If a Muqtadi Corrects the Imam in Taraweeh From an Open Quran?

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

The Muqtadi is to follow the Imām and is not to recite or read from the Quran. The Muqtadi should follow the Imām and not read behind the Imām.

Allah said:

“And when the Quran is recited, then listen to it and remain silent, that mercy may be shown to you” (Surah al-A’raf: 204)

It is reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:

“Whoever has an Imam, then the recitation of the Imam is his recitation” (Al-Daraqutni, Kitab al-Salah, Hadith No.1233)

Secondly, if a person reads from the Mushaf, then his Salāh, according to Imām Abu Hanifah becomes invalid, regardless of one being an Imam or a follower. Carrying the Mushaf and turning the pages is considered excessive action (amal kathir).
