I am a Hindu girl and I have strong feelings for a Muslim boy, what do I do?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

I am a Hindu girl who has strong feelings and love for a Muslim guy who I have detached myself from to not only respect his religion but also him as a person. He is a beautiful person with a loving soul, deserves what he wishes for. I would never want to pressurise or detach a person from their religion and beliefs, I would never do that. So I left my job because he was unhappy with the situation, I wanted him to be happy again.

It has been seven months since I’ve apart from him; I’ve had no contact with him whatsoever. However my feelings for him are still the same, growing stronger each day. I tried my ultimate best to forget him, find someone else and move on…unfortunately distance does make the heart grow fonder. He is a tough guy to get over.

Due to this stress I have a loss of appetite and I lack healthy cycle of sleep. If I do sleep, it is in the early hours of the morning. Of course I have been dreaming about him a lot and it results into friendship and him being back into my life, is this a sign of things to come? No idea.

One morning I didn’t get to sleep around 06:30AM, once my head hit the pillow I was asleep. I dreamt that I was in Mecca visiting the Hajj.I was really close to the Kaaba, I’d probably say I was approx 400 yards away overlooking the people. I can’t begin to explain how life-like and real it was, so beautiful and breathtaking. This dream was after I tried to attempt suicide.

Dreaming about a holy place during the early hours of the morning is such a blessing. However stating the obvious, I am not Muslim.  I never thought about Islam, I was questioned several times in the past if I would convert (because of the guy) I didn’t answer because I was unsure myself. Other than that it is a dream totally out of the blue. For me it is scary because I don’t know how the dream applies to me.

Does Allah want me to do something for him? Am I blessed ? Or am I just having this dream because I am in love with a guy I cannot simply be with?

A good friend offered me advice to study what Islam truly is and gave me a book to read. I am starting to understand what Islam is and there are passages that I never knew existed, I actually cried reading it. Also, the Azan prayer calls to me and I get peace just by listening to it.

I know this is too much to digest and I apologise. If you can shed some light into what this means for me I will be able to understand and embrace it better.

Thank you in advance.

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

The vision of the Ka’bah in your dream is a clear indication of an internal revolution in your heart. It is a divine calling for you to submit to the one and only Allah. It is a calling for you to believe in the greatness and majesty of Allah.

All the signs of the dream being divine are clear. You not a Muslim. You never thought of Islam and you see a dream that you had never thought of. How else can you explain the dream but a divine calling to you?

You enquire if you are blessed. Indeed you are blessed with such dream. It is the effect of the divine intervention that you are presented with literature in Islam. It is the effect of the divine intervention that you listen to the Athan and gain solace through it.

Sister, we also wish to caution you to distinguish between the feelings you have for the boy and Islam. It is possible that the feelings for the boy have also contributed to your feelings for Islam. However, we advise you to consider embracing Islam for the beauty in Islam and truthfulness it has in it.

We make Dua (pray) you value the blessed dream and the positive feelings to Islam and sincerely embrace Islam. This will be the key to your eternal solution.

And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best
