Is it true that by an unmarried young girl visiting a women who had a miscarriage she will get effected?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by AnswersToFatawa

Assaaam-o-alaikum

I have a question regarding miscarriage.

If a woman has a miscarriage, are unmarried young girls and married woman who are still capable of having more children’s allowed to visit that person who had a miscarriage. A lot of “old ladies” don’t allow them to visit that particular woman due to bad omen. Otherwise they will get “affected” by the woman who had a miscarriage.

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

There is no harm in unmarried young women and married women who are still capable of having children to visit and condole a women who just had a miscarriage. Being able to conceive is solely in the hands of Allah Ta`ala. Consider the following:

Translation:

He confers females (offspring) to whomsoever He wills, confers males to whoever he wills or He grants then male and female (offspring to those parents whom He wills). Allah also makes whomsoever He wills barren. Indeed, He is the All Knowing (knows who deserves what), All Powerful (He does as He pleases). [Surah Shurah, verse 49-50]

Therefore, the concept of them not being allowed to visit women who had a miscarriage is baseless. The prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said:

“There are no contagious sicknesses nor any bad omens (in Islam)[1]” (Sahih al-Bukhari, v7, pg126)

It is a sin to believe that other women will be affected by miscarriage. This is a defect in ones aqidah (belief) and should be corrected.

And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best
