I want to know, Is it permissible to perform wudhu with zamzam water?

Jazak Allah

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

In principle, it is permissible to perform wudhu (ablution) or gushul (a bath) with zamzam water for tabaruk (to gain blessings) when one is in the state of purity. It is disliked to perform wudhu or gushul with zamzam water when one is impure as this goes against its lofty status since zamzamis the best water on the surface of this world. It is reported that the Prophet (sallalahu alayhi wa sallam) has said:

عن ابن عباس رضي الله عنهما قال قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه و سلم خير ماء على وجه الأرض ماء زمزم فيه طعام الطعم وشفاء السقم

The best water on the surface of this world is zam-zam. In it is food for the hungry and cure for the sick. (Majma`al-Awsat, vol8, pg)

And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best
