Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

what is the status of this hadith :

Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) said that when noor enters the heart, the (spiritual) breast of man expands. When the Sahaabah asked for a sign of this noor, Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) said: “Such a person flees from this abode of deception. He turns his attention to the abode of the Aakhirah and he makes preparations for it before the arrival of maut.”
Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

The Hadith mentioned in the query is as follows:

عن عبد الله مسعود (رضي الله عنه) ، عن رسول الله صلي الله عليه و سلم قال: {فمن يرد الله أن يهديه يشرح صدره للإسلام} قالوا: يا رسول الله، وكيف يشرح صدره؟ قال: “يدخل فيه النور فينفسح”. قالوا: وهل لذلك علامة يا رسول الله؟ قال: “التجافي عن دار الغرور، والإنابة إلى دار الخلود، والاستعداد للموت قبل أن ينزل الموت.

Translation: Hadhrat ‘Abdullah ibn Masood (Radhiyallahu ‘Anhu) narrates that Rasulullah (Sallallhu ‘Alayhi Wa Sallam) recited the verse “whoever Allah wishes to guide, He expands his bosom for Islam”. They asked: O Rasulullah (Sallallahu ‘Alayhi Wa Sallam), and how is that his bosom expands? Rasulullah (Sallallahu ‘Alayhi Wa Sallam) replied: noor (light) enters the heart so it expands. They asked: O Rasulullah (Sallallahu ‘Alayhi Wa Sallam), and is there a sign for that? Rasulullah (Sallallahu ‘Alayhi Wa Sallam) replied: refraining from the abode of deception, aspiring for the everlasting hereafter and preparation for death before it arrives.

Ibn Kathir (Rahimahullah) mentions that there are multiple chains of transmissions to this Hadith each strengthening the other.[1] Hence the Hadith is reliable.
