If one calls the call to prayer to announce the entrance of the time, is it a condition for its validity that one have an intention?
The most correct opinion in our school is that one does not need an intention for the validity of the call to prayer. The only condition is that he not intend something else by it. So for example, if he intended to call it only to teach it to someone, then it does not count. And this is mentioned by Al-Khatib al-Shirbini in the Mughni, (1/324).
الجواب : الأصحُّ عندنا عدمُ اشتراط النية لصحة الأذان، وإنما الشرطُ أن لا يصرفه إلى غيره فلو قصد به تعليمَ غيره لم يُعتدَّ به حينئذٍ، كما بين ذلك الخطيبُ الشربيني في “المغني” (1/324).
