Conditions for Standing in Prayer

Answered as per Shafi'i Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Sidi Mostafa Azzam

If I wear a long thawb and end up standing on it (because it is dragging on the floor) during qiyam, does that affect the correctness of the prayer? The reason I ask is because one isn’t supposed to prostrate on something that moves with him, but I’m not sure if the ruling also applies to standing on something that moves with one. Also, if I lift my toes off the ground or shift one of my feet by lifting it and placing it down again during recitation of the fatiha, does this affect the correctness of the prayer? The reason I ask is because standing is a requirement for the obligatory prayer but I’m not sure what the minimum standing requirements are.

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

In the Name of Allah, Most Merciful and Compassionate

All that is required for standing is that one stand straight, without inclining too far forward.  That is why one does not find in Reliance or other texts several conditions listed regarding standing, whereas one does regarding prostration.
