Question:

Assalamulakum anybody come across any ta’reef of what constitutes merely the surface of the halaqatut dubur and what will what be considered to have entered the dubur

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

The answer will depend on which legal question you are referring to. For example, in the section on fasting if a dry item was entered into the dubur (anal passage) it would only be considered as entered fully and to break the fast if the whole thing disappears, whereas if it was wet then entering a part of it up to a certain extent breaks the fast.1

Whereas for the sections related to Istinja (cleansing) anything on the body/skin beyond the area of the ‘makhraj’ (anal exit passage) would be considered external requiring cleansing etc. even if it was on the Safha which is defined as that which is hidden/covered between the buttocks when one stands. Whilst anything on the makhraj itself is considered internal.2
