The love of Rasulullah (sallallahu’alayhi wasallam) for his daughter and son in law (radiyallahu ‘anhuma)

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by HadithAnswers.com

Is this Hadith sahih?

Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam) said, “Fatimah is more beloved to me than you, O ‘Ali, and you are more valuable to me than her.”

Answer

Imam Tabarani (rahimahullah) recorded this Hadith on the authority of Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (radiyallahu’anhu) with a weak chain.

(Al-Mu’jamul Awsat, Hadith: 7671. Also see Majma’uz zawaid, vol.9 pg.202)

However, Imam Tabarani (rahimahullah) has also recorded a similar Hadith on the authority of Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Abbas (radiyallahu’anhuma).

The words of this version are:

‘O Fatimah, you have my compassion for my child, whilst ‘Ali is more valuable to me.’

‘Allamah Haythami (rahimahullah) has declared all the narrators of the chain for this narration as reliable.

(Al-Mu’jamul Kabir, Hadith: 11063 and Majma’uz zawaid, vol.9 pg.202)

Meaning

‘Ali is more valuable to me.’ Means Sayyiduna ‘Ali (radiyallahu’anhu) was more valuable to the cause of Rasulullah (sallallahu’alayhi wasallam)  in spreading Islam and its related demands.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best,
