The forbidden times for nafl salah

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by HadithAnswers.com

The Ulama say performing nawafl salah after Fajr until sunrise, at zawal time and from ‘Asr to Maghrib is not permissible. Can you cite the authentic narrations to suggest this?

Answer

1. Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Abbas (radiyallahu’anhuma) reported that Sayyiduna ‘Umar (radiyallahu’anhu) said that Rasulullah (sallallahu’alayhi wasallam) prohibited performing salah after Fajr till the sun rises considerably, and after ‘Asr till sunset.

(Sahih Bukhari, Hadith: 581 & Sahih Muslim, Hadith: 1918)

2. Sayyiduna ‘Uqbah ibn ‘Amir (radiyallahu’anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu’alayhi wasallam) said:

‘There are three times in the day in which Rasulullah (sallallahu’alayhi wasallam) prohibited us from offering salah or even burying our deceased therein;

a) When the sun rises, till it rises considerably,

b) When the sun is still at midday until it moves away [from the zenith],

c) When it sets, till after it sets.

(Sahih Muslim, Hadith: 1926)
