What is the Islamic perspective on giving food to the needy on Muharram?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Darulifta-Deoband.com
Every year I give foods to the underprivileged on Muharram for my elders who are not alive with niyat. Is this a bida’h?

No doubt it is a rewarding deed to feed the poor and indigent people but the specification of the month of Muharram has no basis, there is no special virtue of doing isal-e-sawab in the month of Muharram as per the Shariah. You may feed in any other month as per your capacity, it is bida’h to fix the month of Muharram for it.
