Should we take money for teaching Quran or teach free of cost?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Darulifta-Deoband.com
My sister is aalima, & she is going to start to teach the Quran to the ladies at home. Alhamdulillah Allah has given us everything, we don’t have any need of money, but some people said to take money like 100 rupees per month for teaching Quran so that people have the importance of it. In this case, please suggest what we need to do? Have we to take money or teach free of cost?

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

(Fatwa: 254/204/D=03/1435)

In itself it is lawful to teach the holy Quran and take the remuneration. However, it is better to teach it without fee but the problem is that people would not take it seriously and the children and their family shall pay less attention. Thus it is alright to charge some fees. However, you should also have the provision to keep the poor students exempted from fee. When you collect the money and you do not need it then you should use it in charity and other good deeds.
