Visiting My Father’s Grave: Is There Leniency in Islam for Women Without Male Relatives?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: My father passed away. I want to ask that may I go to his grave as I don’t have a husband, brother or son. To sum up I have no man in my family so is there any leniency in Islam?

Bismillaah

A: Women are commanded to remain within the confines of their homes. Without any valid Shar’i need, they should not leave their homes. With the abundant fitnah prevalent everywhere nowadays and being unable to avoid the fitnah, women are discouraged from visiting the graveyards. You should recite the Qur’an from your home and convey the reward of your recitation to your deceased father.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
