Going on Holiday in Iddat

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askmufti.co.za

Q: Can a widow in iddat (waiting period) go to on holiday with her son and his family after three months of iddat? The widow is more than 50 years old. What will happen if she goes on holiday during the iddat?

A: The Iddat of a widow is one hundred and thirty days. It is not permissible for her to leave the Iddat home for the purpose you mentioned. Iddat is a command from Allah Ta’aala and His Rasool (Sallallaahu Alayhi wa Sallam). Breaking a command of Shari’ah is a major sin. If she goes, she will be committing a major sin. She must remain and complete her Iddat. She may travel anywhere after the Iddat is over.
