What does

1. da’if

2. mawdu’ and

3. hasan hadith mean?

Answer

These are technical terms.

1. Da’if refers to weak Hadiths. Weak Hadiths are acceptable for subjects other than ‘Aqidah (belief) and Ahkam (legislation).

2. Mawdu’ is a fabricated Hadith which may never be quoted but for the purpose of caution against it.

3. Hasan refers to the second level of acceptable Hadiths (maqbul). This may be used for legislation and other issues.
