Showing Off.

Question: Assalamu alaykum

What is the ruling regarding the person who shows off worldly gains and items but does all good deeds purely for the sake of Allah Ta’ala? Is this comparable or in any way compatible with the hadith regarding wearing clothes below the ankle? Also, is it permissible for an individual to migrate to a non-muslim country for pursuit of a halal career that is otherwise unavailable in his place of living?

Answer: Assalamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,

Dear questioner,

It is forbidden to show off in world matters. And yes, it is comparable to showing about one’s expensive clothes and Allah has threatened such people with a terrible punishment.

Regarding moving to a non-Muslim country, it is not ideal but it is permissible.

I pray this helps.
