Question Summary
Am I allowed to use Apple products if their logo has religious implications regarding the Prophet Adam (Peace be upon him)?
Question Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate
It is permissible to use Apple products. Steve Jobs, the original founder of Apple, and Job Janoff, the corporate logo designer, have publicly explained their reasons for choosing the Apple logo. There was no mention of any relation to Prophet Adam (peace be upon him).
History of the Apple
The Apple logo, all though it has been the subject of many rumors, was not made in reference to the Prophet Adam (Peace be upon him).
Steve Jobs, in a 1981 interview, said that he chose the name Apple because he liked eating apples. The first Apple logo in 1976 was a picture of Isaac Newton with an apple hanging over his head with the inscription ‘Newton… A mind forever voyaging through strange seas of thought alone.’
Steve Jobs didn’t like this logo as he considered it too complicated and outdated. In 1977, Job Janoff created the Apple logo with rainbow colors, similar to the one used now. This was used from 1977 till 1998 and has since only been slightly changed in its colors. The bitten part of the Apple, Job Janoff describes, was done to differentiate its appearance from that of a cherry. [Logo My Way Article: Apple Logo And the History Behind the Company]
