What is Permitted for a Menstruating Woman to Recite?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Seekersguidance.org

In the Name of Allah, Most Merciful and Compassionate
Assalamu ‘Alaykum Dear Sister in Faith,
The remembrance of Allah is a central aspect of Muslim spiritual life and should never be abandoned under any circumstance.
The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) said,
“Let your tongue be ever moist with the remembrance of Allah” [Tirmidhi]
Following the Hanafi School, a menstruating woman may not touch the Quran (without a detached cover) nor recite even a verse of it with the intention of recitation. [al-Haddad, al-Jawhara an-Nayyira, 1:240]
However, she may recite all other forms of remembrance (dhikr, tasbih, salawat) and supplication (dua), even if they be from the Quran, so long as the intent is not recitation. [Ibn ‘Abidin, Hashiya, 1:195]
The remembrance of Allah is the beating of the spiritual heart and the breath of the spiritual soul.  Our Lord, Most High, is never severed from us; thus, we should never be severed from Him by neglecting His remembrance.  Menstruation does not and should not pose any obstacle to this Divine connection.
May Allah be with us and you in all our states. Amin.
Allah, Most High, knows best.
