Question: Assalaamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,
Should we gargle or rinse the mouth in the following circumstances: during Wudhu, Ghusl, before eating and after eating?
Answer: Wa alaikum assalam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,
I pray that you are in the best of health and faith, insha’Allah.
(1) The emphasized sunna in the ablution (wudu) is to wash the entire mouth.
(2) To exaggerate in doing so, by gargling or otherwise, would be recommended.
It is obligatory to wash the entire mouth during the ritual bath (ghusl) as the command to purify the body, in the verse related to this, is emphatic. [Shurunbulali, Maraqi al-Falah]
