Sitting briefly after the prostrations: Why isn’t it a sunna in the Hanafi school?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

Another issue; he also stressed that sitting for a brief period after the second prostration in the first and third rak’at (only in a four rak’at prayer) is also a sunnah which is confirmed by ahadith but according to the Hanafi school it’s not. Please explain briefly.

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Walaikum assalam wa rahmatullah,

This brief sitting was transmitted from the end of the Messenger of Allah’s life (Allah bless him and give him peace). It is understood by the Hanafis, due to supporting evidence to have been as a result of the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace)’s weak physical health, which also lead him to perform his final prayers sitting down.

Rather, the sunna is understood to be that one stands up immediately after the prostrations, without delay if physically able. [Shurunbulali, Maraqi al-Falah; Haskafi, Durr al-Mukhtar]

And Allah alone gives success.

Wassalam,
Faraz Rabbani
