Praying Attire?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

I usually wear a long shawl in the house when praying alone and someone mentioned to me that this is not right. He said you should not wear anything long that when you are in Ruku’, it will touch the floor. Please validate insha’Allah.

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Walaikum assalam,

It is better to avoid this. It is not sinful, however. One thing to be careful of is not to simply let the shawl “hang” from your shoulders, for it is prohibitively disliked (makruh tahriman), as it inevitably results in a lot of unnecessary action as one adjusts the shawl.

Wassalam,

Faraz Rabbani.
