Contract with Courier Service: permissibility

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

we send our parcels via a ?ourier service. Because it’s quite inconvenient to pay cash every time we send smth., they have proposed us to sign a contract. This contract means that they take our parcels and start delivery of these parcels before we pay. We pay via a bank transfer only after they’ve prepared a bill. Is such transaction permissible? (I read about impermissibility of future sales, that’s why I ask).

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Walaikum assalam wa rahmatullah,

I pray this finds you in the best of health and spirits.

Such a sale would in itself be permissible, because the transaction itself is considered to take place when they pick up the parcel–and the price due is considered effectively determined, because courier companies have a known and set schedule of prices.

And Allah alone gives success. Faraz Rabbani
