Prostrating to a Saint… and the fatwa of Imam Ahmad Raza Khan (Allah have mercy on  him)

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

My sister said when she was small, she was taken to a saint’s darbar, and she said, they all prostrated (sajda) and she didn’t know what was going on & she prostrated too. Will she get sinned for it? and also are they kafirs now and will they be in Hell forever?

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Walaikum assalam wa rahmatullah,

There is scholarly consensus that it is not permitted to prostrate to other than Allah. Without the intention of worship it is not outright disbelief ( kufr), though it remains one of the greatest of sins.

The adults would bear the sin until they repent.

See Imam Ahmad Raza Khan’s answer (Allah have mercy on him) below.

Wassalam,
Faraz Rabbani
