Invalidating the fast through intercourse

Can you please advise me what should one do if he accidentally committed a sin by having a intercourse with his wife while fasting? While ago I heard from someone that there is a Hadith where Prophet(sws) advise the man to slaughter a sheep and feed it to the poor people. Can you please tell me what can I do in order seek forgiveness from Allah(swt).
