Timing of cutting baby’s hair

Question

My sister-in-law had her child last week but due to the child being in intensive care, they were only allowed to bring the baby home yesterday. Today is the 7^th day. Do they have to cut the hair today or can they do it on the 9^th and 11^th day?

Answer

It is preferred to cut the new-born baby’s hair after the ʿAqīqah on the 7^th day (as outlined in an earlier answer). Otherwise, it is preferred this is done on the 14^th day.
