Timing of cutting baby’s hair

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by IslamicPortal.co.uk

Timing of cutting baby’s hair

Question

My sister-in-law had her child last week but due to the child being in intensive care, they were only allowed to bring the baby home yesterday. Today is the 7th day. Do they have to cut the hair today or can they do it on the 9th and 11th day?

بسم الله الرحمن الرحیم

Answer

It is preferred to cut the new-born baby’s hair after the ʿAqīqah on the 7th day (as outlined in an earlier answer). Otherwise, it is preferred this is done on the 14th day.
