Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by HadithAnswers.com

Please verify this Hadith:

“The stone is the station of Ibrahim. Allah made it soft and made it a mercy. Ibrahim would stand on it and Ismail would hand the stones up to him.”

JazakAllah khayran

Answer

A Hadith in Sahih Bukhari (3364) states that Nabi Ibrahim (‘alaihis salam) did stand on the stone (which is referred to as the Maqam Ibrahim) while constructing the ka’bah.

I haven’t found the statement you question in any explicit hadith.

Imam Abu Hatim Razi (rahimahullah) has reported the above statement with his chain of narrators from the Tabi’i; Sa’id ibn Jubayr (rahimahullah)

(Tafsir, Ibn Abi Hatim & Tafsir Ibn Kathir, Surah Baqarah, Ayah: 125)

This statement of Sa’id (rahimahullah) is one that cannot be derived from intellect. The Muhaddithun generally understand such statements and tafsirs (commentaries of Quran) of the Tabi’un to have been acquired from Rasulullah (sallallahu’alayhi wasallam), but it would be in the category of  Mursal hadith (a technical hadith term).

(Tadribur Rawi, vol.1 pg.288)

However, since the narration doesn’t explicitly refer this to Rasulullah (sallallahu’alayhi wasallam), we too will not do so. This the reason why I said at the outset: “I haven’t found the statement you question in any explicit hadith.”

Al-Muhaddith, Abul ‘Abbas Al-Qurtubi (rahimahullah) in his commentary of Sahih Muslim has quoted the following from the Sahabi; Sayyiduna Jabir (radiyallahu’anhu) and the Tabi’i; Imam Qatadah (rahimahullah):

“…it is referring to the stone on which Ibrahim (‘alaihis salam) stood when building the Ka’bah. It would rise as he needed during construction.”

(Al-Mufhim, vol.3 pg. 325)

The historians also generally mention that the stone served as a ladder for Nabi Ibrahim (‘alahis Salam) and that it would rise up as per his need.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best,
