Removing shoes when eating

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by HadithAnswers.com

Is there any Hadith about the Prophet (sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam) prohibiting from eating with shoes on? If so, is it reliable?

Answer

Sayyidina Anas (radiyallahu ’anhu) reports that Nabi (sallallahu ’alayhi wasallam) said:

’When you eat, remove your shoes, for it is more comfortable for the feet.’

This has been recorded in the following Hadith books with weak chains that are varied in the extent of their weakness.

Sunan Darimi, Hadith: 2125,

Mustadrak Hakim, vol.4 pg.119 and , vol.3 pg.351,

Musnad Abi Ya’la, Hadith: 4172

Musnad Bazzar, Hadith: 7567, 7568

Al-Mu’jamul Awsat of Tabarani, Hadith: 3226

The Hadith can be practiced upon.

Kindly refer to a reliable Mufti/Darul Ifta for a juristic ruling.
