Rasulullah (sallallahu’alayhi wasallam) said: ‘Two will not be rejected, supplication when the Adhan is being called and at the time of the rain’.” Is this Hadith authentic?
Answer
1. This Hadith is reported by Sayyiduna Sahl ibn Sa’d (radiyallahu’anhu) as recorded by Imam Hakim in his Mustadrak.
Imams Hakim and Dhahabi (rahimahumallah) have declared it authentic (sahih)
(Al-Mustadrak, vol.2 pg.114)
2. The Tabi’i, Imam Makhul (rahimahullah) reported a similar Hadith from Rasulullah (sallallahu’alayhi wasallam) – mursalan; in which there is an omission at the top of the chain-.
(Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah, Hadith: 19861 with a sound (hasan) chain as declared by My Esteemed teacher, Al-Muhaddith Shaykh Muhammad ‘Awwamah in his footnotes)
Imam Sa’id ibn Mansur (rahimahullah) has also recorded the narration of Makhul (rahimahullah) with a good chain.
(Nataijul Afkar, vol.1 pg.383)
3. Imam Shafi’i (rahimahullah) too has recorded a narration with similar meaning, after which he says: ‘I have learned that several people experienced acceptance of their du’as at the times of iqamah and when it rains.’
(Kitabul Umm, vol.2 pg.554, number: 591-592)
4. The Hadith of Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (radiyallahu’anhu) also has the same content. See it here.
For more narrations on du’as being accepted at Adhan time, see Targhib, vol.1 pg.190-191.
