Could you kindly provide a reference for this Hadith.
Nabi (sallahu ‘alayhi wasallam) said:
‘The one who consumes intoxicants is (compared to the one) that worships idols.’
Answer
This Hadith is recorded by the following Imams in their respective kitabs:
1. Imam Ibn Majah (rahimahullah), on the authority of Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (radiyallahu’anhu)
(Sunan Ibn Majah, Hadith: 3375, Misbahuz Zujajah, Hadith: 1172)
2. Imams Ibn Hibban, Ahmad, Bazzar and Tabarani (rahimahumullah), on the authority of Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah Ibn ‘Abbas (radiyallahu’anhuma).
(Sahih Ibn Hibban; Al-Ihsan, Hadith: 5347, Musnad Ahmad, vol.1 pg.272, Musnad Bazzar, Hadith: 5085 and Al-Mu’jamul Kabir, Hadith: 12428)
3. Imams Bazzar and Harith ibn Abi Usamah (rahimahullah) have recorded it on the authority of Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Amr (radiyallahu’anhuma).
(Musnad Bazzar, Hadith: 2382 and Faydul Qadir, Hadith: 4853)
These narrations have slight variations in their wordings and are reported with different chains that support each other.

Note: Every sin is evil, however the ill-effects of this sin are limitless. In our age, the amount of advertising for alcoholic drinks is alarming. One should shun all such attractions to avoid falling prey to this abhorrent wrong.
