Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) had become cautious when receiving gifts after Khaybar

Can you confirm the source of this Hadith?

كان رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وسلم) لا يأكل من هدية حتى يأمر صاحبها أن يأكل منها للشاة التي أهديت له بخيبر

Answer

Imam Tabarani (rahimahullah) has recorded this narration on the authority of Sayyiduna ‘Ammar ibn Yasir (radiyallahu ‘anhuma). Imam Bazzar (rahimahullah) has recorded the narration with slight variation in the wording.

‘Allamah Haythami (rahimahullah) has declared the narrators of Tabarani reliable (thiqat). ‘Allamah Munawi (rahimahullah) has also authenticated the chain.

(Al Mu’jamul Kabir; Refer Majma’uz Zawaid, vol. 5 pg. 21 and Musnad Bazzar; Al Bahruz Zakkhar, Hadith: 1413. Refer: Majma’uz Zawaid, vol. 5 pg. 21 and vol. 8 pg. 296, At Taysir, vol. 2 pg. 264)

Imam Bayhaqi (rahimahullah) has recorded a longer version. Hafiz Ibn Hajar (rahimahullah) has declared this chain sound (hasan).

(Shu’abul Iman, Hadith: 3569, Fathul Bari, Hadith: 5537)

Translation

Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) would not consume from a gift until the person who gave the gift consumed from it first. This was due to the [poisoned meat] he was gifted in Khaybar.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
