Friday prayer in non-muslim country

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Fatwaa.com

I am a 16 year old muslim convert living in a non-muslim country, and I live in a town with 3200 inhabitants. There is no mosque, and I don’t know if there are any other muslims in the town. There is a big city 20-30 minuttes away (by car), and I know there are muslims there. Am I required to go to the city, or what exactly am I required to do in this situation, regarding the friday prayer?

Answer

Wa’alaykum as Salam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu,

If there are 3 other Muslims living close by (like your family members), you should read a simple Khutba and perform Jummuah together.

If there are no other Muslims at all, you should pray Dhuhr prayers, just like how you pray on other days (4 Rakats silently). You do not have to travel to the other distant city for Jummuah.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best

Wassalaam,
