Raising High Buildings

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulIftaBirmingham

Raising High Buildings

In the name of Allah, the most Beneficent, the most Merciful.

Answer

Saaiduna Anas Radiallahu Anhu narrates that the Prophet of Allah Sallallahu Alahi Wasalam said. “All spending are in Allah’s way, except construction, which has no merit.” (Sunan Tirimizi)

It means that the building, which is constructed in excess of requirement, has no benefit or virtue. Another narration of Saaiduna Anas Radiallahu Anhu also confirms this. “Every building is a tribulation for the builder, except that which is necessary, because it is not a nuisance.”

It is commentated in Ruhal Maani that without genuine requirement construction of tall buildings is contemptible and condemned under the shariah. (Maariful Quran p.548 v.6)
