Pronunciation of the Kalimah. Firaun’s body.

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

I have a question regarding Kalima. Lailaha Illalah Muhammadur Rasulullah (SAW) When should we be reading MuhammadUR, MuhammadAR, MuhammadAN, MuhammadEEN What will be the meaning difference? May Allah forgive me. Q2. I have only heard from people and not from any Aalim or Mufti that because of the sins of Firaun, his body is not burnt by fire and not accepted or thrown out by water and land. Is it true?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

1) The proper pronunciation of the first Kalimah (Kalimah Tayyibah) is Muhammadur,

لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا الله مُحَمَّدٌ رَسُولُ الله

lā ilāha illā -llāh, muhammadur rasūlu –llāh

The the proper pronunciation of the second Kalimah (Kalimah Shahadah) is Muhammadan,

أَشْهَدُ أنْ لا إلَٰهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَأشْهَدُ أنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ

Ašhadu an lā ilāha illā- laahu, wa ašhadu anna muammadan ʿabduhu wa rasūluhu.

The difference due to the rules of Nahw (Arabic grammar). You may refer to Taleem ul Haq, for the correct pronunciation of the Kalimas. https://archive.org/details/TaleemulHaq

 2) You state that you heard from people and not from any Aalim or Mufti. It is important for a Muslim to ensure his source of Deenī knowledge is sound and reliable. Imām Muhammad ibn Sīrīn (d. 110 H) – may Allah Ta‘ālā have mercy on him – said:

إن هذا العلم دين فانظروا عمن تأخذون دينكم

“Verily, this knowledge is religion, so be cautious of whom you take your religion from.” (Sahīh Muslim)

Furthermore, if Firaun will not burn in fire due to his sins, why will Shaitaan and other sinful people burn in the fire?

In reference to Firaun, Allah Ta’ala states in the Quran,

فَالْيَوْمَ نُنَجِّيكَ بِبَدَنِكَ لِتَكُونَ لِمَنْ خَلْفَكَ آيَةً وَإِنَّ كَثِيرًا مِنَ النَّاسِ عَنْ آيَاتِنَا لَغَافِلُونَ

So, today, We shall save your body, so that you may become a sign for those after you. And many of the people are heedless of Our signs. (10:92) [1]

This Ayah is explained in Ma’ariful Quran;

“Addressing Pharaoh in the first verse, it was said that Allah will take his body out of the waters after he is drowned so that his body becomes a sign of Divine power, and a lesson for people after him.

Sayyidna Musa (Alayhi Asalam) told Bani Isra’il about the drowning of the Pharaoh. They were so overawed and subdued by him that they refused to believe the news and said that the Pharaoh was not drowned. To guide them right and to teach others a lesson, Allah Ta’ala had the dead body of Firaun thrown ashore by a wave of the sea. Everyone saw it and believed that he had died.

And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best
